A Strengths-Based Approach to Remote Faculty Development

A retreat, an institute, and an orientation wished they could walk into a bar, but it was a zoom happy hour... In summer 2020, we held three major faculty development programs remotely. All were originally formatted as multi-day, intense, face to face experiences. We deliberately leveraged combinations of character strengths and talents within our project teams, seeking to build on strengths rather than overcome deficits. Strengths-based teamwork aligns with the principles of equity-minded, inclusive teaching that we offer as faculty development themes. Character strengths and talents are distinct from work skills. This presentation will challenge participants to consider how their own strengths can contribute to the shift from face to face to remote faculty development.
