Leveraging Campus Tools: Building a Virtual Escape Room

With the shift toward remote learning, course activities had to get reimagined. With a focus on the learning objectives for a course, the potential to develop a virtual escape room was explored. The escape room would leverage the campus tools available, such as Canvas and Zoom to provide structured, sequenced activities for students to complete. The design of the project began with faculty developed content, such as a PowerPoint, which was then converted into a video file that included music. Each video was added to Canvas Studio and placed in order of topics. Finally, quizzes were added between each room and were required to complete in order to advance. Successful viewing of videos and completing of quizzes allowed the students to receive a virtual key to exit the escape room.
