Mr. Howard Story worked in both the California K-12 and higher education systems for over 44 years. Howard spent most of his career in the Media and Technology areas of Education.
After graduating from Cornell University with a Master’s degree in Communication Arts, Mr. Story worked 14 years as a Media Specialist for Los Angeles County Office of Education, before being hired by El Camino College.
During his 30 year career in the California Community College system, Howard served as Distance Education and Media Services Coordinator. His responsibilities included chairing the Distance Education Advisory Committee and oversight of online and telecourses. He was also responsible for the College Cable TV channel and Media Department which included, production, classroom technology support and media materials acquisition/circulation.
During his tenure at El Camino, Professor Story also was department chaired and taught courses in the Television and Media Communications program. Under his leadership the program grew from 2 courses to a full AA degree. Howard also worked as acting Library Director for several months.
Howard is a long time DETCHE member and has served as a board member, Vice President and President. He has received numerous honors including the DETCHE Member of the Year award.
